Yesterday and most of the day today was spent at a beach house in st simons island. Lindsey’s family often does a Christmas after Christmas event and they pick random spots across Georgia to all meet and celebrate.
It was an all around good time. Unfortunately I was only able to make half the stay because of work, but it was still a fantastic little break in life.
Liam and I played on the beach for a good few hours and watched the sunset. It reminded me that making memories with our kids is extremely important. Get out and do something. The beauty is you can really do anything.
I used to hesitate in making plans because I felt a sense of intimidation planning the ultimate escape. When your a parent, I think you feel pressure to provide the amazing every time. Although this isnt necessarily a bad thing, it turns rotten when you just don’t do anything because your plans aren’t perfection.
Well, I think any parent would tell you your kids don’t care about perfection. They just want to have fun with you. That’s the amazing thing about being a parent. It’s not a perfect or nothing job. In many ways, showing your kids your “human” is one of the best parenting examples you could give.
We had a great time. We didn’t go jet skiing or build an amazing sand castle (which there was). We did draw lines in the sand, run in the water, splash each other and have a catch with an empty water bottle.
Like I said, not a high bar for your kid to have fun… .
